Dr. Young Tze Kuah

Dr. Kuah is a certified specialist in Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Bringing over 13 years of experience, he is second dentist in British Columbia to have specialized in both Pediatrics and Orthodontics.

Dr. Kuah was born in Singapore but grew up in West Vancouver, British Columbia and is multilingual in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. After attending the University of British Columbia and earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree in 1993, Dr. Kuah furthered his study and research and attended a 3 year program at the University of Connecticut Health Centre and obtained his Diploma in Pediatric Dentistry as well as a Masters of Dental Science Degree in 1996. Upon completion, he continued his studies at the Oregon Health Sciences University where he obtained his Diploma of Orthodontics.

Dr. Kuah is an active affliliate holding numerous positions within the professional organizations. He is currently a member of both Canadian and American Associations of Orthodontists, the Canadian and American Academies of Pediatric Dentists and their respective provincial and local societies. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Keen to mentor and contribute to the education of dentistry, Dr. Kuah is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia. He previously taught undergraduate clinical Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics to dental students and is presently giving seminars to Dental Orthodontic and Pediatric dental residents in the graduate program. Dr. Kuah has also been on the medical staff at British Columbia Children's Hospital since 1999.

Dr. Kuah is personable and is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care and service to his patients. He joined the Monarch Pediatric Group in 1998 and in 2000, he founded the Monarch Orthodontic Centre.

Dr. Farah Mawani

Certified Specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics

Dr. Mawani was born in Nairobi, Kenya and raised in Calgary, Alberta. She obtained her Bachelors of Science degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and went on to dental school at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. While in dental school, Dr. Mawani received numerous awards and scholarships and was placed on the Dean’s Honor List for her achievements. She received the prestigious Canadian Dental Association’s President Award and the Dr. J.K. Carver Award for achieving the 2nd highest GPA in her class.

Dr. Mawani practiced as a general dentist for three years prior to completing her Masters of Science Degree in Orthodontics at the University of Alberta. She then practiced orthodontics in Edmonton, Alberta until moving to North Vancouver with her husband in 2003. They have a 5 year old son, Noah, and enjoy spending quality time with him camping in the summer and skiing/skating in the winter.

Dr. Mawani is a member of both Canadian and American Associations of Orthodontists, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. She enjoys sharing her knowledge of Orthodontics and is currently an instructor for the Certified Dental Assistants Orthodontic Module at the University of British Columbia. She continues to keep up with the latest orthodontic advancements by attending courses and conferences throughout North America.

Dr. Mawani joined Dr. Kuah and the Monarch Group in 2004. She shares the same orthodontic treatment philosophies as Dr. Kuah, and is involved with all aspects of orthodontic treatment in both locations. With her exceptional educational background and her warm personality, she is a great addition to Monarch family.


Dr. Frederick Cheung

Certified Specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics

Dr. Cheung was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Immunology from the University of Toronto in 2003. He went on to attend Boston University, where he received his dental degree and graduating with summa cum laude honors. Following dental school, Dr. Cheung completed a residency in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry program at the University of Connecticut and it was here where he developed an interest in orthodontics. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania where he completed his specialty training in Orthodontics.

Dr. Cheung is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and recognized by the College of Dental Surgeons of BC as a licensed Certified Specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. He is also a member of the Canadian and American Associations of Orthodontists and actively participates in continuing education to keep up-to-date with the latest advancements.

Dr. Cheung joined the Monarch Orthodontic Center in 2012. He shares many of the same orthodontic treatment philosophies as Dr. Kuah and Dr. Mawani. Dr. Cheung is friendly and attentive. He is committed to providing the best care and will ensure every visit to the office is a positive one.

In his spare time, he enjoys trying new restaurants with his wife and remains active through cycling, hockey and snowboarding.
