Dr. Hui-Derksen was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada with her family when she was four years old. She grew up in Grande Prairie, Alberta with her four siblings and survived many a cold winters in Northern Alberta. Dr. Hui-Derksen received her dental degree (DMD) from the University of Manitoba in 2002. After practicing and teaching for three years as a general dentist in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Dr. Hui-Derksen realized her love and passion for pediatric dentistry. She attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and obtained her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry as well as a Masters in Pediatric Dentistry in 2007. Dr. Hui-Derksen practiced in Ottawa, Ontario both in private practice and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario for a year prior to moving to Vancouver in 2009.
Dr. Hui-Derksen is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (December 2007) and a Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry in B.C. Outside the practice, Dr. Hui-Derksen is involved with teaching at the University of British Columbia at the undergraduate level as an Assistant Clinical Professor. Dr. Hui-Derksen is also on staff at the British Columbia Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Elsa as her patients call her, is very proud to be a part of the Monarch Pediatric Group as an owner. You will find her to be a warm, friendly and happy member of the Monarch family. Outside the office, you will find Dr. Elsa loves the outdoors and can be seen running and hiking. She has a passion for sharing her baking with others and most of all, loves to spend time with her 2 year old son and husband.
